Mistfall Hunter New Player Guide

Mistfall Hunter is a third-person PvPvE extraction ARPG from Bellring Games, published by Skystone Games, released July 29, 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. New players drop into a dark fantasy world where the Gyldenmist has swallowed the land, play as a resurrected Gyldhunter, and learn one rule above all: if you die before extracting, you lose everything you are carrying. This guide walks through the core loop, your first class choice, camp preparation, and how to survive your first runs.

What Kind of Game Is This?

The game is an extraction looter, not a solo campaign. Every run mixes PvE monsters (the Corroded) with rival players in the same match — official materials describe it as a PvPvE extraction ARPG, and the is it PvP? guide covers how the two layers interact. Combat is melee-focused with a Souls-like feel: timing, dodging, and stamina management matter more than button-mashing. See Mistfall Hunter PvE for the PvE side of the loop.

The Core Loop

Every successful run follows the same structure:

  1. Prepare at camp — pick a class, equip a loadout, restock consumables.
  2. Enter a regionHallowgrove or Brandrgarde.
  3. Explore and loot — open chests, break crates, kill monsters, and gather Gyldenblod and crafting materials.
  4. Find the Returner Woodling — a rare creature that carries a bell. Defeat it to claim the Soul of Return.
  5. Extract — ring the bell to open a way out and bank your loot in the camp warehouse.

Anything you do not extract is lost on death. What you already banked at camp is safe. The full process is covered in the how to extract guide.

Choosing Your First Class

Six classes are available at launch, each with two weapon stances that can be switched mid-fight:

ClassRoleWeaponsDifficulty
MercenaryFrontline FighterHammer / Sword and ShieldBeginner Friendly
SorcererRanged Mage / Battlefield ControllerStaffIntermediate / Advanced
BlackarrowRanged Scout / MarksmanBowAdvanced
ShadowstrixAssassin / Melee Damage DealerDagger / Dual BladesAdvanced
SeerSupport / Battlefield ControllerCatalyst / MaceIntermediate
Withered KnightGreatsword Duelist / Melee BruiserGreatsword / Polearm & ShieldIntermediate / Advanced

Community sources converge on the Mercenary as the best first class: keengamer calls it the safest choice for beginners, metamist.io describes it as “the most forgiving class with the highest HP pool,” and GameSpot highlights its versatility between offensive and defensive playstyles. Sportskeeda’s beginner tips recommend the Mercenary for solo players and the Seer for group play. Several guides also suggest the Sorcerer as a strong ranged starter (mistfallhunter.xyz lists Sorcerer, Mercenary, and Blackarrow as the most forgiving picks).

Two practical notes from community guides: classes can be switched without creating a new character (per GameRant), and early on it is better to stick with one class and learn its strengths before experimenting (per Sportskeeda). A full breakdown of every class lives on the characters page.

Camp Preparation and First Upgrades

The camp is your safe hub — no mist, no PvP, no death. Between runs you organize your warehouse, sell junk, restock supplies, forge gear, and spend Gyldenblod on upgrades. Camp residents you will meet include Pip (the Woodling merchant who hands out newcomer supplies — see Characters), Sigrid the Brewmaster (whose Victory Wine grants buffs, per the Bell of Return quest), Dramm the Spirit Blacksmith, and Soekja the White Crow by the docks.

Community guides agree on the first upgrade: raise your Gyldenblod Pool first, because it increases how much currency you can carry out of a raid, and “it pays for itself faster than anything else” (mistfallhunter.xyz). Community sources also recommend upgrading storage so valuable extracted gear survives between runs.

Maps and Modes

Two regions were documented at launch, each with difficulty modes:

MapModeDifficultyEntry requirement
HallowgroveNormal★★☆☆☆Equipment quality Excellent or lower
HallowgroveChaos★★★★☆Equipment value 1,000+
BrandrgardeNormal★★☆☆☆Equipment value 300+
BrandrgardeCataclysmUnknownData not yet published

Hallowgrove has no shrinking zone, so the Gyldenmist pressure is low and you can explore freely — it is recommended as a first destination for new Gyldhunters. Brandrgarde’s mist closes in over time, producing a faster, more intense experience. Start on Normal; community guides repeat that you should learn the maps before touching Chaos.

Combat Basics

Mistfall Hunter combat is timing-based and stamina-driven. A few fundamentals from class guides and community coverage:

  • Watch enemy wind-ups. Big attacks telegraph; that is your cue to dodge or block. The PvE guide notes dodging — especially against elite monsters — is treated as mandatory by beta players.
  • Do not over-commit. Whiffing a heavy attack into a counter is how runs end, especially with slow weapons like the Hammer.
  • Manage stamina. Dodging and attacking drain it; running out mid-swing leaves you helpless.
  • Use consumables. Healing elixirs restore health over time and are worth carrying on every run.
  • Check a target’s gear before fighting. Some community guides advise watching the equipment-quality icons near player names to judge whether a fight is worth taking.

Loot and Inventory

Prioritize Gyldenblod and items for your current progression goals, and do not hoard junk — unwanted materials can be sold. A common community tip is to loot fast and leave: lingering at a point of interest invites rival players, and the richest loot spots are the most contested. If you need to protect a specific item, Pip’s Pouch system (unlocked through Pip’s vouchers) lets you secure loot in an extra pocket.

Common Beginner Mistakes

Community guides (mistfallhunter.xyz, GameRant, allthings.how, Sportskeeda) repeat the same advice:

  • Do not get greedy. A medium haul you extract beats a fat haul you die holding.
  • Plan your exit early. Know where you will find a Woodling before the mist or rival pressure forces your hand.
  • Treat every player as hostile. Anyone carrying loot is a target — including you.
  • Extract early rather than late. The safest windows are the earliest and latest moments of a run, before the map shrinks and hunters get desperate.
  • Do not skip the tutorial’s lessons. The first Hallowgrove expedition teaches combat, exploration, and extraction before you queue into real PvPvE runs.
